Jason Day to play as a single on Saturday at the Travelers pending COVID-19 test results

Jason Day will play as a single in the third round of the Travelers Championship pending the results of a COVID-19 test he requested on Saturday morning.

The PGA Tour released a statement saying that Day asked for the test. Should it come back negative, Day will go off alone on the 10th tee at 9:15 a.m. as a precaution, according to the tour.

Day entered the weekend T-53 at four under, nine shots behind 36-hole leader Phil Mickelson. He had scheduled to play with Rafa Cabrera Bello and Roger Sloan at 8:09 a.m. off the 10th tee. Tee times had been moved up at TPC River Highlands and groups paired in threesomes off the the first and 10th tees in ancitipation of bad weather later in the day.

Day has played in all three PGA Tour events since the tour restarted play earlier this month. He missed the cut at both the Charles Schwab Challenge and the RBC Heritage.

Should Day ultimately drop out, he would be the eighth player this week to withdraw from the Travelers Championship due to COVID-19 related issues.
